The British Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Security Officer.
As part of the Security Team, to ensure the effective security of British Embassy staff and properties by adhering to security procedures and implementing security measures. Further to general security duties and tasks, the incumbent will act as a back-up driver for the Embassy and provide office assistance as needed.
Roles and responsibilities:
Effective physical and technical security
• Checking identity and conducting security search of visitors;
• Monitoring security status of property perimeters, official vehicles and access to the Embassy premises;
• Scanning incoming mail by using X-ray mail scanner;
• Overview of CCTV surveillance;
• Act as the on-call Duty Security Officer on a rotational basis, including but not limited to checking relevant staff properties, responding to alarms and other emergencies (e.g. embassy staff in distress, facilitating access to the Embassy building out of working hours);
• Provide security services at Embassy receptions/events at the official Residence and other locations as required.
Driving
• Provide driving services in line with post Transport Policy.
• Act as one of the back-up Embassy drivers by covering full time driver when complete their daily duties, out of working hours and during weekends;
General reception
• First point of contact with Embassy visitors;
• Operate switchboard in receptionist capacity;
• Receive/distribute mail to Embassy staff.
Administrative support
• Prepare and distribute invitations for the Embassy’s major events, and manage RSVPs;
• Printing and sending reminder cards, name tags, menus etc. for various events at the Residence;
Take on other duties / areas of work as required and instructed by line manager.
Working patterns: This is a shift system position with limited options for flexible working.Essential qualifications, skills and experience 1
- Verbal and written proficiency in English and one of the BiH constituent languages (Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian);
- At least 3 years of experience in security roles;
- Clean and valid driving license with at least 4 years of professional driving experience;- Candidates will be subject to driving test.
- Problem solving skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to network and work collaboratively with others;
- Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures;
- Flexibility and ability to learn quickly;
- Use MS Word and Excel.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience 1
- Experience in security roles, preferably for or with international organisations.

This is a full-time position of 5 working days, 41 hours per week.
The position is offered initially for one year with a possibility of extension upon successful completion of a three-month probation period and subject to the availability of funding.
British Embassy Sarajevo supports flexible working options that are in line with our policies and agreed with line manager.
British Embassy Sarajevo will provide opportunities for learning and development. In addition to access to the UK’s Diplomatic Academy online learning offer, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake advanced driver training.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Bosnia-Herzegovina in order to apply.
The successful candidate will be hired under the Terms and Conditions of British Embassy Sarajevo and social contributions will be paid accordingly.
The monthly salary for this position is 3309.62 BAM gross per month. In addition, members of staff receive a meal allowance and transport allowance as per Terms & Conditions.
